Anna K by Jenny Lee is a fresh and modern retelling of Anna Karenina that brings the classic story into the world of wealthy New York teenagers. Even if you’ve never read the original novel, this book stands well on its own, offering plenty of drama, romance, friendship, and heartbreak. From glamorous parties to complicated relationships, the story is packed with the kind of page-turning moments that make it difficult to put down.

What I enjoyed most about Anna K was how accessible it made a classic story feel. The characters are flawed, emotional, and often messy in ways that feel very real. Anna is easy to root for, even when she makes difficult choices, and the supporting cast adds depth and excitement to the story. Jenny Lee does a wonderful job balancing romance and drama while exploring themes of love, family expectations, friendship, and finding your place in the world.

Reading Anna K felt a little like stepping into a modern-day gossip-filled drama with a literary twist. There are moments of joy, heartbreak, and plenty of surprises along the way. As the first book in the series, it does an excellent job of introducing the characters and setting up their interconnected stories while leaving readers eager to see what happens next. If you enjoy contemporary young adult fiction filled with romance, friendship drama, and modern retellings of classic stories, Anna K is a fun and addictive read that’s easy to get swept up in.
